The Chart is drawn, the course is chosen
But the Captain sleeps at the wheel
Mentality's seeds grow to thorns and weeds
People really think what they feel

Didn't we say our destinies are
Where the Kings were Closer to the Heart?
According to my liquid crystal compass
It seems we've wandered off the chart

Was I only just a highly illogical man
When the hearts sang so long ago
Are the Kings getting any closer?
There's such a long, long way to go...

Now I'm looking at a chronological span
And a castle on a distant hill
The path is rougher everyday
Every step brings me Closer Still...

I can see what you can't see
And I believe that in the end
The dragons pick their teeth with our swords
Reality is forged with a pen

The tidewash surge fills the tidal pools
To pass the buck, an alarming trend
Big money gets bigger still
But there's no change from what we spend

Was there ever such a mythological land
Where the King ruled from the heart
The high places make the men they hold
Smoky mirrors reflect their art

We see the heart flow into the street
In the most unlikely places
As the players gamble to win the realm
A show of hands reveals too many aces

Hearts and minds collide in the street
Flying sparks burn the cities down
Silent screams are everywhere
The air is shattered by the awful sound

Could there ever be a mythological land
Where the talk needn't be so tough
Is the Heart getting any closer?
It surely isn't close enough...

Can we promulgate and ideological plan
The question isnt 'Can' but 'Will'.
Is the heart getting closer yet?
We need to be closer still!
